Explore & Discover at the CDC
The Altus AFB Child Development Center offers full day childcare for children ages 6 weeks – 5 years old. The Child Development Center is conveniently located adjacent to the housing area on North Altus Rd. All programs are designed to enrich your child’s social, cognitive, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth and development. Our staff works in partnership with parents to meet each individual child’s needs in a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment. Fees for this program are determined using a sliding scale based upon total family income, sanctioned by the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). The Altus CDC is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and is recognized by the State of Oklahoma as a certified Five Star Facility meeting the highest quality of early childhood program standards and criteria.
Staff
The CDC staff members are a well-trained, caring group of people trained in:
- Early childhood development
- pediatric first-aid and CPR
- Fire prevention and safety procedures
Many of the CDC’s employees have exceeded the Air Force requirements for training by completing their:
- Child Development Associates Credential
- College couse work in early childhood development
- Associates/ Bachelors Degrees
Parent Involvement
The Altus CDC has an open-door policy; families are always welcome to drop by! The Child and Youth Programs has a Parent Advisory Board which meets quarterly at the CDC to discuss concerns, upcoming events within the programs, and to promote cooperative discussions between CYP management and parents to create new ideas for making the programs better for children, families, and the staff.
Certifications
The CDC is the only daycare facility in Jackson County to hold an accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Additionally, the CDC is only one of two daycare facilities in Altus to be recognized by
the State of Oklahoma as a Three-Star Certified Facility.
Programs Offered
Hourly childcare is offered on a space available basis. Please call the CDC front desk at (580)481-7502 for availability.
Altus CDC offers Kinderspot for currently enrolled families wanting to “rent” out their child’s spot while on vacation, TDY, etc. Families who do not need full-time care or are waiting for a spot at the CDC can request to “rent” those available spots from currently enrolled families via the Kinderspot app. Please click on the website below for more information or contact the Child Development Center front desk .
Eligibility
Active duty military, DoD government employees, contractors and retired military are eligible to use the Child Development Center for the care of their children. The priority for childcare was created by the Office of the Secretary of Defense and all military service child and youth programs across the world use the same placement system and priority listing. This secure Department of Defense website provides a single gateway for you to find comprehensive information military-operated or military-approved childcare programs worldwide. With MilitaryChildCare.com, you create an account and maintain a family profile that you can access at any time from any location. The profile stores your basic information such as sponsor name, contact information, family type, and child data. With this profile you can conduct a customized search for a wide range of childcare options, request care across services, submit unlimited requests for care, and remain on waitlists for a preferred program even after being offered care by another program.
Staff
Our program provides a comprehensive training program lead by a Training and Curriculum Specialist. The Training and Curriculum Specialist (T&C), credentialed in a field related to child and youth development, monitors, and ensures required training is administered and successfully accomplished. Further, T&C’s frequent classrooms to observe, mentor, and provide support to staff to ensure they meet high standards of quality care. Prior to assignment, all Child and Youth Programs (CYP) Professionals complete an initial training which focuses on core topics, including but not limited to: Fire, Safety, and Health requirements, CPR and First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, Identification and Reporting Age Appropriate Posititve Guidance, Developmentally Appropriate Practice, Admission and Release Procedures, Nutrition and Meal Service, Safe Sleep Practices, Administration of Medication, Inclusion of Children and Youth with Special Needs, Overview of Customer Service and Family Relations, Child Supervision and Accountability. In addition, CYP Professionals who directly work with children and youth are required to complete an 18 month Program Assistant Certification Training (PACT) Modules to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop competencies within an assigned age group. These competency-based training modules include topics on Helath and Safety, Guiding Children’s Behavior, Developing an Enriching Environment, Physical and Cognitive Development, Building Children’s Self Esteem, Working with Parents, and more.
